Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE)
The cost of poverty experience (COPE) offers participants a glimpse into the lives of low-income individuals and families living in our community, including the obstacles that are faced, the decisions that are made, and the consequences that impact these families every day. Participants will be grouped into "families" to role-play common challenges facing families living in poverty. Then, you'll have an opportunity to de-brief with others about your experience. The entire event will take place in the gymnasium of Cliff Temple Baptist Church. DOWNLOAD POSTER COPE was developed by Think Tank in partnership with the Chalmers Center (authors of When Helping Hurts). In Dallas, UNITE facilitates the delivery of this training tool. The experiential exercises have been co-designed with low-income individuals who have shared their stories so that participants will gain a more accurate understanding of the complexity of poverty. Cost: $10 per person. If you are interested in 2 Saturday seminars that are a follow up to the COPE experience, consider attending Making Neighborhoods Whole.
